Simply Writing

See what people are saying

  • “I had a great weekend and learned a lot! I found my inner writer; instead of thinking too much, I learned to trust my gut feeling telling me what to write 🙂 The highlight of the class was the instructor. She is not only a joy to spend the day with, she is very professional—and sharp.”

  • “I was surprised by how producing a short text could make me so happy! Thank you, I am so very glad I did it. I can’t point to a highlight, because I enjoyed the entire 2 days. What I can say is that while I feel satisfied with having done the workshop, I also feel ‘unsatisfied’ enough to continue—to write more, learn more, practice more.

  • I learned that I deeply enjoy writing. To be fair: I kind of had an idea of that in advance. But I learned that there are techniques to get you started, to keep you going, to help you systematize your thoughts… And I learned that what we discussed about writing can more or less be applied to any creative process, like design. It was a great two-day journey of discovery.

  • The first 15 minutes of the first day were eye-opening: I learned that having a-million-and-one fears does not make me less of a writer! For that alone, I owe you a big thank you!

  • “This course was the boost I needed to really get my literary juices flowing. In fact, I’ve continued writing the story I started during the weekend.

I’d also like to add that the instructor’s enthusiasm is infectious: her energy throughout the two days was consistent. When asked to write a piece for the workshop overnight—something I hadn’t done for many years—I was so excited; the instructor’s enthusiasm for her subject had rubbed off on me a little.”

  • I feel so inspired and motivated to do more writing and exploration. I learned that the innate ability to write needs to be awakened and sharpened by constant practice.

  • “What was the highlight of the two days? Only semi-jokingly (ah, the ego is a sensitive thing): somebody—in jest—commenting that my little piece was ‘perfect’!

Mostly seriously: Feeling the confidence brought on by a workshop leader full of passion for the written word, steering a group with such professionalism and kindness. Sensing one is not alone in this battle to get words, thoughts, anything, really, on paper – but that there are methods to approach the monster, look it in the eye, and write on.

I’m happy I finally got the chance to take this workshop. I’ve been lucky enough to be part of these classes in various settings and would recommend any and everyone to flock towards the Amsterdam Writing Workshops and the Institute for Business Writing and be taken under your Lisa’s wing.”

  • “I learned how important it is to look not only for critique but for what’s working in a piece (including mine). The highlight occurred at the end of the workshop, during the Q & A, when my concerns regarding “the problem” of lack of continuity were addressed directly, with professionalism and with care.”
