“During the Writing Nonfiction workshop, I learned effective strategies for kick-starting the writing process – so often the most challenging moment for writers. There were also so many insightful conversations about genre-fluidity, the concept of truth, and the writer’s call to compose their piece. The workshop afforded me the space to discover refreshing aspects of my own creative process as a writer.”

“Perhaps most salient here (in the Writing Nonfiction workshop) was understanding the process and the method. That approaching a work of nonfiction doesn’t necessarily have to be different from fiction. Rather than creating characters, we study them. Instead of building a world, we live it, examine it and paint it with words.
This workshop helped me to push the boundaries of what I know of writing—and of myself as a writer. I learned where to begin the exploration of writing a work of truth, but with flair and story.”

“After taking the Writing Nonfiction workshop, I learned to have more faith in myself and my skills. This workshop helped me to understand the journey from idea, to prompt, to draft(s), to the final result. Writing seems a lot less scary and intimidating now. It was a positive and encouraging space, and it helped improve my attitude towards my own work.
I learned a lot about about free-writing, about the importance of the draft system, and unexpectedly, I learned a great deal about publishing. I realized that writing is a very accessible way of being creative, and it’s a great way to connect with people.”
