Every poet has their own voice, a voice of panic or composure, guilt or of rage, darkness or joy, world-weariness, wonder…. At this workshop, you’ll explore the range of expression your voice represents, in all of its nuance.
“The Poetic Voice” is a poetry extravaganza. On the first afternoon, we’ll read poetry written in diverse voices, and we’ll dip into different emotional modes. By the end of the afternoon, you’ll have poetic fragments to work with—and to submit as a finished poem on Sunday afternoon, when you’ll hear your work read aloud (anonymously)—and get individualized feedback on your writing.
You'll leave the class with:
• several of your own poems—written in different styles
• writing prompts for getting started—in quarantine and beyond
• info on how and where to submit your poetry for publication
This is part of our annual poetry series. Beginners and experienced writers are welcome. The workshop is taught by poet Ann van Buren and writer Lisa Friedman.
