“To be honest, I am more of a novel reader than a short-story reader. At least I was before the course. I preferred novels because I believed it gave you greater depth to characters and plot, creating a world to fully immerse yourself in. However, I now see that a good short story is capable of producing this same effect. I like the pace that a short story moves at, the resolution not far from the conflict.
‘The Short Story’ gave me increased confidence. That might sound strange but beforehand I was worried that the course would do the opposite and knock my confidence, highlighting a multitude of things I’m doing wrong or not doing at all. But instead it highlighted my competencies whilst also giving me areas to work on.”
